Charity Bike Ride 2011 - Birmingham to London

Our Charity Bike Ride 2011

Me, Jason, Jon and a bunch of friends of ours who are all very amateur cyclists of all ages gathered Friday the 5th of August 2011, ready to cycle 138 miles approx on the Grand union canal from Birmingham to London our finishing point was Big Ben on Sunday the 7th of August. This was all in aid of a friend of ours daughter Niamh Billington Jones who was born in January this year and was recently diagnosed blind with a rare condition called O.N.H...Optic nerve hypoplasia, we were hoping to raise as much money as we could for her, to enable her to have stem cell treatment which is not performed in the Uk but done only in the States or China as you can appreciate this is going to be an expensive process but may give her a good percentage of vision and a better standard of living, So we here at Route One are proud to say we have helped a fantastic little girl in someway.

The route to London was predominantly on Canal tow paths which could vary from being just grass, un-kept, overgrown and very rocky. We also had many punctures / bike issues on the way and we had a little detour (went the wrong way) so what originally was planned should of been 138 miles turned out to be 160 miles for us, but the crème de la crème was watching one of the guys fall in the canal and drag himself out lol…..Me, Jason and Jon would like to thank everybody that sponsored us as it really is for a great cause and we are very happy to say we here at Route One have raised between us in the region of £2500

Thanks again for all your help and support.
